The provision of health care and the prevention of disease are core goals of Born To Aid. To adequately address this problem requires dealing with many aspects of life in rural Kenya. Availability of clean water is essential to the health and well being of people. Born To Aid receives donations of medical equipment and supplies in the United States. This equipment will be used either to supply clinics which Born To Aid constructs or to supply existing clinics in exchange for highly discounted or free medical care. Children continue to die from minor illnesses which are easily treatable. People sell their government supplied AIDS medication in order to buy food. Mother-to-child transmission of HIV is shockingly high although it is easily preventable. The stigma associated with a diagnosis of AIDS leads many people to avoid being tested for HIV. Disease goes untreated, further increasing HIV transmission not only from mother to child, but also in heterosexual intercourse. Extreme poverty forces many people to be faced with impossibly difficult decisions: Buy food, Buy medicine, or pay school fees..
Clearly, lack of good health care arises from many causes. Born to Aid will function on many levels to fulfill its goal of improving health care.
